Each county assessor in Indiana compiled a list of veterans of military service who were residing in their county (or if deceased, their widows and orphans). These enumerations were done in 1886, 1890 and 1894. These lists are kept at the Indiana State Archives and are also available on microfilm at the Indiana State Library and the Family History Library.
The same soldier may appear more than once in an enumeration year--their service with a different rank, company or regiment is listed separately.
[ill.] denotes where something was illegible.
Unless it is otherwise noted in the Remarks column, the military service occurred during the Civil War.
