William J. Herring, deceased, was a native of Harrison County, Ky., born Jan. 20, 1824, a son of George and Elizabeth Herring. When he was a boy he accompanied his parents to Hendricks County, and here he grew to manhood. He was married Feb. 24, 1848, to Isabel Worrell, daughter of Richard and Jane Worrell, natives of Kentucky and early settlers of Hendricks County, where her mother died. Her father is now living in Kansas. To Mr. and Mrs. Herring were born four children-- Richard, Mary A., Martha M. (deceased) and Elizabeth J. Mr. Herring was an honorable, upright Christian man, a member of the Missionary Baptist church. He was a liberal, public-spirited citizen and was loved and esteemed by all that knew him. He died April 3, 1876. His widow resides on the old homestead on section 34, Brown Township, and is one of the most estimable and respected of Brown's citizens.
