In the birthplace column, the two-letter postal abbreviation for the state was used. All other birthplaces, including those from other countries, are copied here exactly as they appear on the census. For those boys enumerated at
the Indiana Boys School (Guilford Township), the census taker used the
birthplace column to record the county in Indiana they had come from.
