This is a circa 1860 photo of Charles Richard Carter (born 1858 in Danville, Indiana; died 1938 in Washington State) and his mother Caroline Eliza (Carnes) Carter. This photo was probably taken in Benton County, Iowa. Caroline Eliza Carnes married Christopher Columbus Carter in Danville on February 3, 1858 and moved to Iowa before 1860, but returned to Danville for the 1870 census (where Caroline was listed with her 4 children). Caroline later remarried in Kansas and Washington State, and was buried in an unmarked grave in Blaine, Washington in 1916.
