ZIM E. DOUGAN

was born in North Carolina Oct. 10th, 1861. He commenced to work in a cotton factory when quite young and continued in that employment until 1872 when he came to Indiana with his mother and an elder brother. In 1872 he was placed in the care of Calvin Ferree, of Belleville, there being an understanding that he was to be sent to school four months out of each year, the remainder of his time to be spent on the farm. He completed the common school course at Belleville and commenced to teach in 1882 at Pecksburg. He taught this school a second term. He then taught three years at Belleville. He was principal at Clayton four years and then took a course in the Indiana Law school from which he graduated in 1895. He is now the efficient deputy clerk. He has ever been a true Republican.
