ETHAN A. MILES

is thirty-eight years old and after completing the common schools of Danville entered Purdue university where he remained one year, making his way by acting as janitor of one of the buildings. He then entered the Central Normal college taking all the courses in order and in 1881 graduating from the Classic class. He helped in building up the school as the private secretary of President Adams. Mr. Miles has had great experience in the school room, and is said to have taught everything from the “a, b, c's” to Xenophon. He was a page of the Hendricks court when a boy and took great interest in the proceedings and frequently, after a legal argument, would go to the library and look up the cases referred to by the attorneys. For five or six years he has been in the active practice in Danville, associated with his father, Capt. Miles, until the latter's illness. He always takes a deep interest in the campaigns of the Republican party.
