A.L. SYMONS

claims Henry County as his birthplace and 1837 as the year. At the age of sixteen he left Henry county and moved to Miami [county]. In 1862 he enlisted in the Union army in Hamilton county and served in the 101st regiment for twenty months and in the 19th battery for fifteen months. He received the appointment as corporal and by a vote of the company was elected orderly and then commissioned lieutenant. He went with Sherman to the sea and marched about 5,000 miles as a soldier. A year ago he received the majority vote in the postoffice election held in Danville. His first vote was cast for Abraham Lincoln and at every election since he has voted the Republican ticket.
