was born in 1845 in Middle township where he has always lived with the exception of three years in the service. At the age of sixteen, he enlisted in the Seventh regiment with which he served eighteen months. Being unable to stand the marching in the infantry, he was transferred to Battery B 5th U.S. Artillery where he served until the expiration of his enlistment. He has been a farmer living northeast of Pittsboro since the war and has never held an office of any kind.
