JOSEPH A. WINNINGS

was born in Ohio, in 1841. In 1854, he came to Marion county, Indiana and worked with his father until 1862 when he enlisted in the 63rd Regiment Indiana Volunteers, participating in all the many battles in which his regiment was engaged, it being attached to the celebrated third division of the 23rd Army Corps. He returned home in July 1865 and in September became a citizen of this county. In 1880 he was elected assessor, being the unanimous choice of his township. He then served two consecutive terms as trustee most acceptably. Since then he has given his entire attention to farming.
