Divorce Notice for Orlando Atkinson and Anna (Clendenning) Atkinson

from The Republican (Danville, Indiana)—issue of Thursday, August 8, 1918—page 1, column 3:

TWO MARRIED PEOPLE SEEK SEPARATION

One Husband and One Wife File Strong Complaints

[…] Anna Atkinson asks the same [separation] from Orlando Atkinson. […] The Atkinsons were married June 3, 1915 and separated July 26, 1918. Mrs. Atkinson alleges that her husband frequently cursed her and called her vile names, falsely accused her of infidelity, has struck her and on one occasion dragged her out of bed and across the floor and has frequently threatened to take her life. She alleges that he owes her $1,400 money borrowed, that he owns 105 acres, unencumbered, worth $17,000 and there is stock on it worth $7,000 and that he received an inheritance of $4,000. She wants a divorce, reasonable alimony, $20 weekly while this suit is pending and her maiden name, Clendenning, restored.
