Divorce Notice for Orlando Atkinson and Anna (Glendenning) Atkinson

from the Danville Gazette (Danville, Indiana)—issue of Thursday, September 4, 1919--page 1, column 2:

SEEKS DIVORCE
Anna Atkinson of Guilford Township Charges Husband With Beating and Choking Her

Anna Atkinson, living three miles southeast of Plainfield, has filed suit from her husband, Orlando Atkinson. She charges cruelty. The couple were married June 3, 1915, and separated Aug. 17, 1919.

In her complaint for divorce Mrs. Atkinson charges that her husband frequently struck her with his fist. Last January, she says, he struck her, knowing her down and permanently injuring her spine. Their entire married life, according to her allegation, has been unpleasant. Without provocation, she says, he cursed and called her vile names, and on many occasions he beat and attempted to choke her. Once he dragged her out of bed and across the floor, bruising her body. He threatened to kill her. She says he unjustly accused her of infidelity.

She is asking alimony in the sum of $10,000 and her name restored to Anna Glendenning. Pending the hearing of the case she asks for $20 a week and $1,000 for attorney fees.
