Divorce Notice for Thomas C. Beasley and Sarah L. Beasley

from The Republican (Danville, Indiana)—issue of Thursday, August 23, 1917—page 1, column 4:

PROPERTY RIGHTS NOW CAUSE OF FRICTION

Sarah L. Beasley wants a divorce from Thomas C. Beasley and the custody of their infant. They were married Sept. 19, 1913 and separated Aug. 15, 1917. She and her daughter had inherited from her former husband 28 acres of land and some personal property. Her complaint alleges that shortly after their marriage, he began to annoy her about her property, compelled her to make him a property statement, took possession of her personal property, abused her, struck her, refused to speak to her daughter, aged 15, for days at a time. She alleges that he used the personal property as his own, ran the 28 acres as his own and took charge of the proceeds; that he insisted that she sell the 28 acres and that they buy another tract of land, the title to be in their joint names. She wants $1,000 alimony. A restraining order was issued forbidding the defendant from keeping plaintiff off the land or of disposing of the personal property.
