Divorce Notice for Leland Benbow and Joyce Benbow

from The Republican (Danville, Indiana)—issue of Thursday, March 27, 1919—page 1, column 2:

WAR TIME MARRIAGES LAND IN DIVORCE COURT
Three Husbands Ask For Legal Separation From Wives

That his wife wrote letters to herself falsely accusing her husband of infidelity is the startling allegation made in the complaint filed by Leland Benbow, living near Amo, for a divorce from his wife [Joyce Benbow].

They were married December 31, 1917, and separated March 24, 1919. Plaintiff alleges cruel and inhuman treatment in that his wife was quarrelsome and had an ungovernable temper, would become angry without cause and have a sulky and pouty attitude. He alleges that she deliberately undertook to make life miserable for him and in execution of her design, wrote letters addressed to herself making false charges against him when she knew such letters and statements were without foundation. Plaintiff also alleges that defendant has accused him of improper conduct with his own mother to his great humiliation. He says that he has provided a good home for mother and wife, that his mother has done more than her share of the work and that defendant has found fault with his mother and their home and demanded that he furnish another at great expense and beyond his financial condition.
