Divorce Notice for Henry C. Darnell and Nancy J. Darnell

from The Republican (Danville, Indiana)—issue of Thursday, April 30, 1914—page 1, column 5:

DARNELL VS. DARNELL

Henry C. Darnell wants a divorce from Nancy J. Darnell. They were married March 30, 1911, and separated March 5, 1914. He alleges cruel and inhuman treatment in word and deed. He charges that by fraud, deceit and chicanery, defendant induced plaintiff to go away on a visit on March 5 and no sooner had he left the house than defendant tore up and wrecked the house, shipped a part of the household goods to plaintiff's mother in Greencastle and a part to her daughter's, at the same time writing a cruel letter to plaintiff forbidding him to return to his home or to set foot upon her premises. Each had previously married and each had children by such marriages but no children have been born to this last marriage. Plaintiff alleges that a daughter of defendant, a son-in-law and a grandson lived on a nearby farm and they were the cause of such trouble; that defendant took sides with them in quarrels which defendant invariably started. Plaintiff alleges that defendant has a violent temper, that with no cause or little cause at frequent intervals she would bust forth like Vesuvius and (lava-like) a torrent of hot, burning, abusive, vulgar and foul language would be showered on plaintiff. Plaintiff says he was a traveling man, that he paid to defendant each month as long as he was on the road nearly his entire net earnings for 21 months amounting to $1,036.50; that he advanced money for her to pay taxes on her farm and to pay a debt on her farm, that he quit the road at her request and settled on a farm and purchased stock, etc. Plaintiff asks that the Court adjust their property rights.
