Divorce Notice for Henry C. Darnell and Nancy J. Darnell

from The Republican (Danville, Indiana)—issue of Thursday, March 18, 1915—page 3, columns 4-5:

[Suits Filed]

Nancy J. Darnell vs. Henry C. Darnell. Divorce. Parties were married March 30, 1911 and separated March 5, 1914. Plaintiff alleges cruel treatment in that for days defendant would not speak to her; that he would rail at plaintiff and abuse her; that he would boast of his family and of his own superiority and told plaintiff she was not a fit companion for him and was too ill-bred to be his associated, that he was a “Darnell” whose people had figured in affairs of government, that he had been unfortunate in marrying a person so much his inferior; that in bad weather defendant would compel plaintiff to do the disagreeable and outdoor work, that she was compelled to do the feeding and milking, defendant insisting that such work was not for such good and high-bred persons as himself; that at times when plaintiff's relatives would visit her, defendant would refuse to eat with her and would quarrel with her over their visits; that defendant would leave home and would not provide help and plaintiff would now know where he was, that on March 5, 1914, plaintiff abandoned her, that on one occasion when her relatives were visiting her, defendant would have done plaintiff bodily harm had he not been prevented. A second paragraph alleges non-support.
