Divorce Notice for Samuel Daugherty and Edna O. (Kirk) Daugherty

from The Republican (Danville, Indiana)—issue of Thursday, April 10, 1924—page 1, column 5:

MRS. DAUGHERTY PLAINTIFF IN ANOTHER DIVORCE CASE

For the third time, Edna O. Daugherty asks for a divorce from Samuel Daugherty. The first suit was dismissed and the young folks tried again to live together. The second suit gave the wife a divorce. Then they were married again July 28, 1923 only to separate February 10, 1924. Now Mrs. Daugherty is again plaintiff in a divorce suit. She alleges cruel and inhuman treatment in that he failed to make suitable provisions for her support and refused to provide a home, failed and refused to let her have money with which to procure clothes and she was compelled to procure employment to earn money. She alleges that he has associated with women of bad repute and when she remonstrated with him for so doing, he first denied the charges and then admitted they were true and told plaintiff she was at liberty to do the same. She alleges he was abusive and rough in his treatment, that he used intoxicating liquors to excess, that he gambled, that he spent much money and time playing pool and billiards, that he refused to take plaintiff to public gatherings. Plaintiff alleges she is afraid of him but that prior to their marriage he promised to treat her with kindness and respect and that he would break loose from all his former associations and conduct himself as becomes a man but he has wholly failed so to do. Plaintiff alleges that defendant is the prospective heir to an estate of the probable value of $35,000. She asks for a divorce, $10,000 alimony and her maiden name, Edna O. Kirk.
