Divorce Notice for James T. Dickerson and Bertha R. Dickerson

from The Republican (Danville, Indiana)—issue of Thursday, November 9, 1911—page 1, column 4:

DIVORCE ANNULLED
James T. Dickerson and Wife Have Court Unravel Their Affairs

Love does some funny stunts and may even be hiding in a divorce suit, only anxious for a chance to come out in the open.

October 9, Mrs. James T. Dickerson secured a divorce from her husband and $3,000 alimony. She had alleged that he made her daughter do heavy manual labor and that they had to care for his invalid sister. Mr. Dickerson did not appear to defend the suit.

Shortly afterwards, Mr. Dickerson did appear and he filed a petition to reopen the case, asking that he be given a divorce from the woman and stating he knew nothing of the proceedings as he was in the west seeking a location to better their condition. A summons left for him at the home of Henry Wilson in Brown township could not be considered legal service as he had never made his home there and was in fact a resident of Marion county, having moved from Brown township July 24 and on August 3, went west, returning October 19. Dickerson denied the allegations in his wife's complaint and alleged that his wife took advantage of his absence and by fraud procured the divorce so she could marry one John Owens and that she married him.

Now that was pretty strong but it afforded a chance for them to talk it over. He learned that his wife was not married. She probably learned some things. She they came into court Monday, had the divorce proceedings annulled, thus making them husband and wife again and then they kissed and went their way rejoicing.
