Divorce Notice for Luke W. Duffey and Lottie W. Duffey

from The Republican (Danville, Indiana)—issue of Thursday, June 26, 1913—page 1, column 4:

DUFFEY VS. DUFFEY

Lottie W. Duffey has sued for divorce from Luke W. Duffey, the well known real estate operator. They were married Jan. 1, 1901 and separated June 13, 1913. Three children have been born to them, aged 10, 7 and 4 respectively. She claims he is worth $25,000 with an income from his Indianapolis business of from $4,000 to $5,000 per year. She asks for $10,000 alimony and $15 per week for the support of the children. She also asks for a restraining order preventing him from disposing of his property. The complaint alleges cruel treatment in that he has repeatedly told her he did not love her as he did, that he was willing for her to have a divorce, that during the last four years he has spent nearly all of his time away from home, that he has been at home on an average not more than once per week and then only for a few minutes at a time, that he stays away at night and has not helped in caring for the children, that he has refused to accompany her anywhere and has failed to do so so, that he has not spent a Sunday at home in four years.

Yesterday the parties appeared in court and a divorce was granted the plaintiff with custody of the children. The defendant is to pay $10 per week quarterly for the support of the children. He is to be allowed to visit the children at reasonable hours in the day time. The defendant pays costs. The court docket says the question of alimony was settled between the parties. It is understood that the defendant deeded to plaintiff the elegant new home with three acres just east of Plainfield, which is said to have cost $11,000.
