Two Disconsolate Wives Tell Sorrowful Stories

Dortha Wilma Fitch asks for a divorce from Russell Fitch. They were married August 1, 1918 and separated May 5, 1930.

Plaintiff alleges failure to provide and says she has had to perform manual labor outside of her home. She alleges cruel and inhuman treatment in that he has caused her to engage in manul labor; he has contracted debts and has required her to pay debts contracted by him. She alleges that he has told her he has not done right and that she could get a divorce and that he wanted her to do so. She alleges that at the time of their separation, she was employed by the Indianapolis News and after he lost his job, she helped him get a position with the Indianapolis News and then had circulated false reports about her character and caused her employers to investigate, all of which was distressing and humiliating to plaintiff; that he has mistreated her in various ways and at different times he would promise to refrain from such treatment if she would continue to live with him; that under promises she did continue to live with him from time to time but he failed to keep the promises made to her. Two children have been born to them, age 11 and 9.

She says defendant is 31 years of age, able bodied and capable of earning from $35 to $50 per week. Plaintiff wants a divorce, the care and custody of their children, $1,000 alimony and that he pay $15 per week for the support of the children.
