Divorce Notice for N.S. Groover and Minnie Groover

from The Republican (Danville, Indiana)—issue of Thursday, August 21, 1919—page 1, column 2:

STOCK OWNED BY HER SEEMS TO CAUSE TROUBLE

N.S. Groover wants a divorce from Minnie Groover. They were married Nov. 11, 1915, and separated August 7, 1919. Plaintiff alleges cruel and inhuman treatment, claiming that when they were married, defendant brought to her new home 18 head of hogs, 2 horses, 2 cows, 100 chickens and various articles of household goods; that she demanded that he furnish feed and care for the stock and its increase and give her all the profits, and would curse and abuse plaintiff when he would request a different arrangement concerning the stock; that finally, Sept. 16, 1916, he sold all his stock and permitted to have, own and keep all the stock on his place; that, in order to keep peace, he has submitted to her demands in reference to the stock; that she has called him vile names; that she has an ungovernable temper; that twice she left home and remained away for a time; that she has told plaintiff she did not love him; that she has told him she wished he would get a divorce; that she struck plaintiff; that she has annoyed and humiliated him by filing numerous complaints for divorce and subjected him to odious comment by friends and neighbors; that there have been several separations, but upon her request to come back and her promise to do differently, he would attempt to live with her, but that she would repeat the cruel treatment and has failed to carry out her promises and it is impossible to live with her.
