Divorce Notice for Edward G. Holtsclaw and Eva Holtsclaw

from The Republican (Danville, Indiana)--issue of Thursday, April 23, 1908—page 1, column 4:

Holtsclaw vs. Holtsclaw

Eva Holtsclaw has filed suit for divorce from Edward G. Holtsclaw. Plaintiff says they were married Sept. 3, 1890 and separated April 1, 1908. She alleges that outside of her housework, she was engaged in hard manual labor all of these years; that defendant has been guilty of cruel and inhuman treatment in that on one occasion he struck plaintiff with his fist knocking her down and then choking her. At other times he cursed and abused her, called her vile names and repeatedly threatened to leave her. She alleges that he required and allowed her to take care of the stock and prepare the fuel while he was sitting around the house or lying in bed. Failure to provide is also alleged. She asks for $2,000 alimony and the custody of their four children and $20 per month for their support.
