Divorce Notice for Zephyr Earl Masten and Osie F. Masten

from The Republican (Danville, Indiana)—issue of Thursday, August 28, 1913—page 1, column 2:

MASTEN VS. MASTEN

Osie F. Masten was sixteen years old when she married Zephyr Earl Masten at Paris, Ill. That was on Aug. 11, 1910. They separated Aug. 24, 1913 and now she wants a divorce. She claims to have been a faithful and loving wife but that the defendant treated her in a cruel and inhuman manner, almost daily cursing her and calling her vile names. She alleges that he often threatened to shoot her, has frequently ordered her to leave, had told her he did not intend to live with her and that he was going to take their little boy away from her; that he struck her and gave their child beer to drink; that he often forced plaintiff to cut wood and feed and water the stock, build the fires while he remained in bed or sat in the house; that he becomes intoxicated and frequently remains away all night and that he spent his time drinking and carousing with immoral men and women; that he failed to provide. Wherefore plaintiff wants a divorce, the custody of their son, two years old, and the custody of a child, expected in October, and $1,000 alimony.
