Divorce Notice for Charles Meldrum and Nellie M. Meldrum

from The Republican (Danville, Indiana)—issue of Thursday, June 19, 1924—page 1, column 3:

TWO UNHAPPY WIVES SEEK DIVORCE RELIEF

Mrs. Nellie M. Meldrum asks a divorce from Charles Meldrum in a complaint filed this week. Parties live in Danville. Mrs. Meldrum alleges cruel and inhuman treatment. She alleges that during the entire time that they have been married, defendant has often struck her; has called her vile and vulgar names, and cursed her often in the presence of the children; that he has stayed away from home all night many times, and told her it was none of her business where he had been.

She alleges that he is a habitual drunkard; that he spends his time and money on other women, and that he told her he thought more of another woman than he did of her. She says that he took the money that she made taking in washings, and bought himself intoxicating liquor; even when there was no food in the house for herself and the children; that he attempted several times to drive her from the home, upon which she herself paid the rent, and that he told her to go ahead and get her divorce, and “go to hell.” Parties were married in 1907, and separated last May. She asks custody of their two children, Floyd, age 15, and Lucille, age 12.
