Divorce Notice for Leonard Mitchell and Lulu (Howard) Mitchell

from The Republican (Danville, Indiana)—issue of Thursday, April 1, 1920—page 1, column 4:

WANTS MAIDEN NAME BACK

Lulu Mitchell asks for a divorce from Leonard Mitchell. She alleges cruel and inhuman treatment in that he called her names and falsely accused her of infidelity. She also says he failed to provide and that in their married life of over two years he has given her not to exceed forty dollars, one coat and one dress and that she has had to work for money to provide herself clothing. She alleges that defendant is high tempered and quarrelsome and continually nags at plaintiff about the food and the way she kept her house, that he refuses to treat their company with due respect and if they went out together and there was any expense, he complained, saying she was the cause of their going and the spending of the money. She alleges that once he locked her in the house and refused to allow her to go to her work solely because he was angry and at other times he would threaten to destroy his life. Plaintiff alleges she is almost a nervous wreck because of the attitude and treatment of this defendant. She wants her maiden name, Lulu Howard, restored. They were married in 1917.
