from The Republican (Danville, Indiana)—issue of Thursday, August 7, 1919—page 1, column 5:

FILES DIVORCE SUIT AND SURETY OF PEACE

Benjamin W. Modlin is defendant in divorce proceedings and also in surety of the peace proceedings. Mrs. [Lena E.] Modlin followed her divorce suit in circuit court with surety of the peace action in 'Squire Kennedy's court. She alleges cruel and inhuman treatment in that her husband has cursed her, called her vile names and struck her, has threatened to kill her and drove her away from home. She wants the custody of their two minor children, $20 per month for their support and $5,000 alimony. She also wants a restraining order so that her husband will not dispose of his personal property. They were married August 1, 1893, and separated July 21, 1919. Modlin furnished $200 bond in the surety of the peace proceedings. The family lives west of Brownsburg.
