Divorce Notice for Isaac Mugg and Minnie Mugg

from The Republican (Danville, Indiana)--issue of Thursday, September 12, 1901—page 1, column 5:

BROWNSBURG SCANDAL
Suits Filed in Which Prominent People are Implicated

Brownsburg is agitated by recent developments affecting prominent people and as a result Isaac Mugg has filed suit for divorce from his wife and has also filed suit against Benjamin Salmon asking $10,000 damages for alleged alienation of his wife's affections.

The complaint in the divorce suit recites that Mugg and his wife were married Feb. 26, 1885, and lived together until Sept. 3, 1901. A daughter was born to them. The complaint alleges that the defendant has lived an adulterous life with Benjamin Salmon and that on the third day of September plaintiff found them together. Wherefore plaintiff asks for a divorce and the custody of the daughter.

The complaint in the damage suit charges defendant with alienating the affections of plaintiff's wife and damages are asked.

Mr. Mugg is agent of the Big Four at Brownsburg and is well known. Mr. Salmon is equally as well known.

There came near being a tragedy in connection with the affair as Mugg emptied two revolvers at Salmon Wednesday night, no shot taking effect.

Damages Awarded

The damage suit of Isaac Mugg against Ben Salmon occupied the Boone circuit court the last of the week. The jury awarded Mugg $1250 damages. Eight of the jurors stood for $8,000 damages and four for $100. The verdict was evidently much of a compromise.
