Divorce Notice for Everett Parnell and Opal Parnell

from The Republican (Danville, Indiana)—issue of Thursday, November 4, 1915—page 7, column 3:

WIFE WANTS DIVORCE

Opal Parnell asks for a divorce from Everett Parnell to whom she was married in 1909. They separated Saturday, last. Plaintiff alleges cruel and inhuman treatment in this: that he frequently told plaintiff to leave his home; that he did not care for her any more; that he cared for other women more than for her; that plaintiff's health has been poor for two years, that she has been taking treatment since May, that her physician advised her to stay off her feet; that defendant is in the dairy business, making from 20 to 60 pounds of butter per week; that defendant has demanded that plaintiff take care of the milk, churn and make butter, although he well knew it was injurious; that defendant has failed and refused to provide plaintiff money for two years and has forced her to purchase clothing with money secured by her from raising chickens; that defendant refuses to take plaintiff to church or into society; that he complains if she goes away from home; that he has refused to permit plaintiff's mother to visit her and has ordered her to stay way from the premises; that she has been a loving and dutiful wife, remaining at home and working while defendant has enjoyed himself and spent his money freely for his own pleasure while denying her the right to do so. It is impossible for her to live with him any longer. She wants the custody of their two children, $3,000 alimony and an allowance for the children.
