from The Republican (Danville, Indiana)—issue of Thursday, January 1, 1920—page 1, column 5:

ALLEGES CRUELTY

In her complaint for divorce from Chas. T. Pigg, Dovie M. Pigg alleges that he has been intoxicated most of the time for two years and that when intoxicated he would curse her, choke her and threaten to kill her; that he falsely accused her of associating with other men; that he has ordered her to leave the house and has met her at the door and told her she could not enter; that he has threatened to drive the children away from home and has ordered her to fix their clothing for that purpose; that he has compelled her to do hard manual labor for the purpose of educating their children; that he abused her because she worked hard in order to give their eldest son an education at DePauw university; that she received within two years an inheritance of $1250 from her father's estate and that he used it and the money was not returned to her nor has he accounted for it. Plaintiff wants a divorce, the custody of their two sons, age 19 and 18, alimony in the sum of $5,000 and $25 per month for each of the children. They were married July 24, 1897 and separated December 20. Plaintiff wants a restraining order enjoining defendant from encumbering or selling his property and from interfering with her in any way.
