from The Republican (Danville, Indiana)—issue of Thursday, July 17, 1913—page 5, column 6:

DIVORCE WANTED

Catherine Quillen asks for a divorce from Charles Quillen. They were married Feb. 2, 1904 and separated July 14, 1913. She alleges that defendant is an habitual drunkard, and has been guilty of the grossest cruelty in that he would come home drunk and would call plaintiff vile names and has been so abusive that she was compelled to leave home; that he threatened her with violence and has struck her; that he failed to provide reasonable support; that she was compelled to do menial labor; that on July 14, he drove plaintiff away from home; that he owns land worth $5,000 and person property worth $500; that soon after their marriage, he received from her $190 in cash, promising to repay the same but he has not done so and still holds the money and she wants this sum taken into consideration in determining property rights. A divorce is asked and $3,000 alimony.
