Divorce Notice for John L. Rutledge and Margaret E. Rutledge

from The Republican (Danville, Indiana)—issue of Thursday, March 28, 1912—page 1, column 5:

FAMILY DIFFERENCES

Troubles continue to multiply in the Rutledge family. Surety of the peace proceedings have been instituted against her husband by Mrs. Rutledge. She followed this up in the circuit court by a divorce suit in which she asks for a divorce and the custody of their infant daughter, Inez. She alleges that they were married March 2, 1879 and separated April 29, 1911; that during the last five years of their married life, he was a drunkard and so abused her and their children that her health was ruined. Oscar T. Scamahorn, a son-in-law, also gets into the mix-up by filing suit for possession of certain real estate. He alleges that John L. Rutledge is unlawfully in possession of it and in addition to possession, Scamahorn wants $5,000 damages.
