Divorce Notice for Chester D. Smith and Berniece Smith

from The Republican (Danville, Indiana)--issue of August 7, 1930--page 1, column 6

WIFE SEEKS DIVORCE

Berniece Smith asks for a divorce from Chester D. Smith, alleging cruel and inhuman treatment, that he is of quarrelsome disposition; that he cursed her and would come home under the influence of liquor; that he would give worthless checks to creditors who would annoy plaintiff in trying to collect the same. Parties were married August 29, 1918 and lived together until in March, 1923 when they separated because defendant mistreated plaintiff. In March, 1924, they commenced again to live together, defendant promising he would not mistreat plaintiff. June 30, they finally separated. Two children were born to them--Mildred and Mary. Mary lives with plaintiff's parents. The plaintiff has Mildred. Plaintiff asks the custody of Mary and that Mildred be left with her parents.
