from The Republican (Danville, Indiana)—issue of Thursday, June 5, 1924—page 4, column 4:

WIFE WANTS DIVORCE

Mrs. Juanita Smith asks [for] a divorce from Edward Smith, in a complaint filed in court yesterday. She alleges cruel and inhuman treatment. She says that Smith was often out late at nights, leaving her and her small child alone; that at times he was very late, and when she inquired, he said that she did not need to know. She alleges that he associated with other women, and that she is afraid to live with him any longer. She says that he neglected her and the child. She says that she has been a devoted and dutiful wife. The couple were married September 9, 1916, and that they separated May 22, 1924. They have one child, Marion Leone. Mrs. Smith asks [for] the custody of the child and a reasonable amount for support.
