Divorce Notice for Walter C. Stanley and Jessie H. Stanley

from The Republican (Danville, Indiana)—issue of Thursday, July 23, 1914—page 1, column 2:

STANLEY VS. STANLEY

Jessie H. Stanley asks for a divorce from Walter C. Stanley. They were married July 20, 1904, and separated July 8, 1914. She alleges cruel and inhuman treatment in that he remained away from home until late at night, saying he was with people whose society he enjoyed more, that he was out with his sweetheart and once when she had seen him with a colored person, he admitted that he had been out with his colored lady friend; that he frequently came home intoxicated; that he told her nothing would please him more than for her to get a divorce; that he is stingy with his wife and child although he spends large sums on himself in riotous living; that he refuses to accompany her to places; that he neglected her when their last child was born; that when she told him she could not live with him, he told her it would be a hell of a long time to wait for the September term of court before she could get a divorce and she could not get a divorce too quick to suit him. Plaintiff wants a divorce, the custody of their child, an order requiring him to support the child and $5,000 alimony.
