Divorce Notice for William R. Swails and Estella I. Swails

from The Republican (Danville, Indiana)—issue of Thursday, July 10, 1919—page 1, column 4:

DIVORCE SUITS FILED BY WIVES AS PLAINTIFFS
Alleged Erring Husband Must Answer In Court

Estella I. Swails asks for a divorce from William R. Swails, alleging cruel and inhuman treatment, in that on numerous occasions he stayed away from home for several days and nights and would not tell her where he had been; that on two occasions, she was compelled to go to hospitals and he refused to pay bills; that he struck her; that he often told her he did not care for her; that he told her of other women he liked better; that he would call her vile names; that he gambled; that she inherited $3,500, which he induced her to loan to him and refuses to repay her. She wants the custody of their son, age 8, $5 per week for his support, and the restoration of her maiden name. They were married Oct. 27, 1907, and separated May 30, 1919.
