Divorce Notice for Ben H. Thomas and Ethel Thomas

from the Danville Gazette (Danville, Indiana)—issue of Thursday, March 14, 1935—page 1, column 6:

SUES FOR DIVORCE
Mrs. Ben Thomas Says She Fears to Live With Husband

Divorce proceedings against Ben H. Thomas, Washington township farmer who was arrested a week ago on intoxication charges, have been filed in circuit court by Ethel Thomas, who alleges that she is afraid to continue living with him.

According to the plaintiff Thomas once tried to choke her, has threatened her with both a gun and a knife and at one time suggested that they “both die together and get it over with.” She claims that once while handling a gun he shot the mirror out of the buffet at their home.

Thomas is charged in the complaint with excessive drinking and Mrs. Thomas states that frequently while she is riding in an automobile with him he threatens to run into telephone poles or into a moving train.

The couple have been married almost 25 years and have one child who is of age.
