Divorce Notice for Ramie Wear and Esther (Roark) Wear

from The Republican (Danville, Indiana)—issue of Thursday, September 21, 1922—page 1, column 2:

CRUEL TREATMENT ALLEGED IN THIS SUIT FOR DIVORCE

Esther Wear asks for divorce from Ramie Wear. They live in Washington township and were married Sept. 4, 1907, and separated Sept. 4, 1922—fifteen years later.

Plaintiff alleges that defendant called her vile names and was frequently intoxicated; that once while intoxicated he broke up furniture in their home and kicked over the dining table, breaking all the dishes on it, and that plaintiff ran out of the house and defendant ran after her and dragged her back into the house and handled her in a rough and brutal manner. Plaintiff alleges that he has threatened to kill her, that the abusive talk has been indulged in by defendant practically all of their married life, and that she has endured his violent conduct for two years. Plaintiff alleges that defendant recently had a public sale, which, she believes, amounted to about $1,500. Plaintiff wants $2,000 alimony and her maiden name, Esther Roark.
