Divorce Notice for Harvey Allen Wood and Bernice (Roark) Wood

from The Republican (Danville, Indiana)—issue of Thursday, March 12, 1914—page 1, column 5:

WOOD VS. WOOD

Bernice Roark Wood, the talented musician, has filed suit for divorce from Harvey Allen Wood. They were married Dec. 31, 1910, and separated Feb. 14, 1914. She alleges cruel and inhuman treatment in that he has accused her of infidelity; accused her of attending school in Indianapolis for immoral purposes and charged that the school was conducted immorally and that people attended for immoral purposes; that when respectable citizens would congratulate her on her ability as a musician or would converse with her in any way, the defendant would accuse her of making improper appointments; that defendant frequently told her that if any child was born to her that he would refuse to live with her any longer and would not recognize the child as his own. That plaintiff had often requested defendant to furnish a home for plaintiff and defendant, but defendant refused, stating that her only reason for such a request was that he should furnish a home for the accommodation of other men; that defendant is a graduate of the Danville High School, attended Indiana University and other colleges and can earn 1,100 per year and has an expectancy of $3,000 at the death of his father. Plaintiff wants a divorce, $3,000 alimony and her maiden name restored.
