Death of Hugh Adams
After a lingering illness, Hugh Fulton Adams died at 5:40 o'clock Friday morning. Services were conducted at the home Sunday morning by the I.O.O.F. and Rev. Daugherty. Interment was at Lizton where the services at the grave were conducted by the Knights of Pythias.
Hugh F. Adams was born Feb. 20, 1851, at Greenfield, Ohio. He came to Pittsboro at the age of seventeen, working in his brother's blacksmith shop. In 1874, he was married to Miss Annie R. Vieley and soon afterwards engaged in farming along with blacksmithing. In 1886, he moved to Lizton and started a hardware store and in 1889 he came to Danville and engaged in the buggy business and in 1894, he opened a drug store. Three children were born to him—Claude Vieley, Elizabeth Pearle and Levy Fay, the last dying in infancy.
His final illness was of fourteen months' duration. He was afflicted so he could not talk. Three months ago an operation was performed but it afforded little relief. Throughout his illness he was very patient. A brother, James Q., of Lizton; three sisters, Margaret Adams, Mrs. Jeannette Dollarhide, of Indianapolis; and Mrs. Leota Duffield, of Sarcoxie, Mo., survive him.
Hugh Adams had many admirable traits of character. In the home circle, he was ideal, bringing to the family altar every comfort and luxury and delighting to be with his loved ones. His hand was ever open to the appeal of charity and many were his little acts of kindness. A wealth of floral offerings were laid upon his casket by his friends.
