Obituary for William H. "Hamp" Blake

from The Republican (Danville, Indiana)--issue of Thursday, March 12, 1903—page 1, column 5:

William H. Blake, known in this community as Hamp Blake, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Harry Ray, in Shelbyville, Sunday night, of the infirmities of years, age 75 years. The remains were brought to Danville yesterday noon and after services at the Methodist church were laid to rest in the south cemetery where lie the remains of his parents, four children and one grandchild. Older citizens will remember that two of Mr. Blake's children died in Danville of diphtheria on the same day and were buried in the same grave and some years later another child and a grandchild died the same day of scarlet fever and were buried in the same grave. Mr. Blake lived in Danville for many years and was a miller. He also lived at Clayton and Acton. He was a member of Silcox Lodge, I.O.O.F., and of the Shelbyville Methodist church. A widow and daughter surive.
