Obituary for Richard B. Blake

from The Republican (Danville, Hendricks County, Indiana)--issue of Thursday, June 21, 1900—page 1, column 3:

Death of R.B. Blake

Richard B. Blake died in a hospital at Chicago Friday night.

Whether he died of tuberculosis of the peritoneum or from an operation to give him relief is not known. The body was taken to Spokane for burial.

The news of Mr. Blake's death was received with many expressions of genuine sorrow in this city where he was so well known and favorably known. He was born in this county in March, 1850, and was but a few weeks over fifty years of age. He attended the Danville academy and in 1872 graduated from old Asbury. Soon afterwards he and Enoch G. Hogate formed a partnership in law which continued until the spring of 1888, when Mr. Blake removed to Spokane. Here he became prominent in politics and in his profession. His wife was Miss Antoinette Moore, daughter of the late Jacob Moore. Two sons were born to them—Jacob and Bruce.

Mr. Blake was a good citizen, an excellent lawyer and a gentleman in every sense of the word. That he should be cut down in the prime of life is sad.
