Obituary for Eva McCorkle Bolen and Bernice (Bolen) Davis

Mother and Daughter Are Claimed by Death
Mrs. Eva Bolen, 82, and Mrs. Bernice Davis, 47, Answered Summons Within Week

MRS. DAVIS DIED SATURDAY

Her Mother, Mrs. Bolen, Passed Away Early Yesterday Morning

Mrs. Eva Bolen, age 82, died at her home on North Jefferson street early yesterday morning, making the second death in the Bolen family to have occurred during the past week. On Saturday morning, Mrs. Bernice Davis, youngest daughter of Mrs. Bolen, died at St. Vincent's hospital in Indianapolis following a brief illness.

Funeral services for Mrs. Bolen will be held at the Danville Christian church, of which she was a member, at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon, in charge of Rev. R. Powell Mead. Burial will be made in the South cemetery.

Mrs. Bolen was born on March 26, 1853, in Hendricks county, where she spent her entire life. She was married to John McCorkle in 1871 and to them were born two daughters, Cora and Nannie. Following the death of Mr. McCorkle, she was married to John Bolen on July 15, 1887. Their only child was Bernice Bolen Davis, whose death occurred Saturday. Mrs. Bolen had been active until about six years ago, when she became ill from the infirmities of age and had been bedfast since that time. She had been in a critical condition for the past three weeks.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Cora Bolen and Mrs. Nannie Ray, two granddaughters, Mrs. Harry Jackson of Indianapolis and Mrs. Ben Cummings of this place and two grandsons, Glendon Ray of Brownsburg and Lawrence Ray of Ft. Wayne; also a sister, Mrs. Alice Hawkins, of Danville.

Bernice Bolen Davis, aged 47, died at St. Vincent's hospital in Indianapolis early Saturday morning. Funeral services were held at the Christian church Monday afternoon, in charge of Rev. R. Powell Mead. Burial was made in the South cemetery.

Mrs. Davis became suddenly ill on Sunday, April 7, and was taken to the hospital on the following Monday, where an emergency operation was performed. Mrs. Davis had been a cook at the Housman restaurant for more than six years. She had been relieved of her duties for two weeks because of the critical illness of her mother, Mrs. Eva Bolen, when she became ill and was taken to the hospital.

She was born near Cartersburg but had been a resident of Danville since a child. She was a member of the Danville Christian church.

Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Cora Bolen of this place and Mrs. Nannie Ray of Ft. Wayne and two brothers, Harlan Bolen of Los Angeles, Calif., and William Bolen of Danville.
