Obituary for Ella (Hufford) Garner

Mrs. Ella Garner passed away Sunday night, September 18, 1949 at the Methodist hospital, Indianapolis.

She was born June 26, 1876 to Mary Jane and Franklin Hufford near Brownsburg. All her life was spent in the vicinity of Brownsburg. On March 4, 1894, she was united in marriage to Rollie Garner. To this union twelve children were born, two of them preceding her in death. Hazel in infancy and Inez in young womanhood.

With her family, she attended the Bethesda Baptist church for many years, later uniting with the Pittsboro Baptist church. Her home and her family were always her chief interest in life.

She is survived by ten children, Mrs. Edna Phillips and Harold Garner of Brownsburg; Mrs. Lois Canary and Hubert Garner of Plainfield; Mrs. Helen Wing of Lizton; Mrs. Johana Shirley of Zionsville; Mrs. Mabel Miller of Carmel; and Mrs. Bernice Davis, Mrs. Edith Off and Mrs. Merle Myers of Indianapolis; twenty-three grandchildren and four great grand-children. She is survived by two sisters and two brothers, Mrs. Carrie Garner of Indianapolis, Mrs. Julia Beaman of Pittsboro, Joel Hufford and John Hufford of Brownsburg. One brother, Edgar Hufford preceded her in death.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon by Elder E.W. Essex at Jones & Matthews Mortuary with interment in Greenlawn Cemetery.
