Obituary for John R. Garner

JOHN R. GARNER

John R., son of Solomon and Deborah Garner, was born December 14, 1845. He was a member of a family of nine children, five girls and four boys. All have preceded him in death. He was joined in marriage with Sarah A. Jones Dec. 17, 1871. To this union was born two children, Mrs. Viola Davis of Rossville, Ill., and Arthur of Pittsboro. About 39 years ago he made a public profession of faith in his Christ and was baptized into the fellowship of Bethesda Baptist church and continued a member throughout the remainder of his life. The wife of his youth died Nov. 17, 1888. He was married a second time May 25, 1890. This union was blessed with one daughter, Mrs. John Patterson, who lives on her father's farm north of Brownsburg. He had been in failing health for some time, but not until the last week was he feeling worse than usual. He passed away Sunday, July 25, 1920, at the age of 71 years, 7 months and 11 days.

Funeral services were held at the Christian church, conducted by Elder P. A. Foson, Tuesday at 2 p.m. Burial was at Greenlawn Cemetery.
