Obituary for Erie (Downard) Hall

from The Republican (Danville, Indiana)--issue of Thursday, December 26, 1901—page 1, column 5:

Death of Mrs. Hall

Erie Downard Hall, wife of Charles S. Hall, died at her home in Evansville, Sunday night, after an illness of two years' duration. She was born in Hendricks county, Feb. 20, 1865, and was a daughter of David M. and Cassandra Downard and lived with her parents on a farm near Hadley until April 24, 1890, when she and Mr. Hall were married. They lived in Danville until 1899 when they moved to Evansville. She leaves surviving a husband and a son two years old. Her lot in life was domestic and for her boy she manifested intense solicitude and care. Losing all sight of her physical infirmities, she was ever ready to respond to his comfort. She often expressed a longing to be spared to rear him but as the time allotted neared its close, she became resigned to her fate and passed out with the faith of a reunion in the great beyond. In early life she united with the Society of Friends at Hadley. Later, she became a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian church of this place, adhering to the teachings thereof until her death. When in health, she was ever ready to minister to the sick, often going beyond her own physical endurance, being generous to the needy and mindful of her friends.

The funeral was conducted yesterday morning from the home of her brother, James A. Downard.
