from The Republican (Danville, Indiana)--issue of Thursday, January 8, 1903—page 1, column 4:

A PIONEER GONE
Passing of Another of the Fathers of the Community

William F. Hamrick, one of the pioneers of the county, died Saturday afternoon at 5 o'clock of diseases incident to old age, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Jeptha Sears, in this city.

The deceased was born Oct. 16, 1813, at Flemingsburg, Ky., and was 89 years, two months and 17 days old. He removed to this county from the place of his birth in 1833.

In 1837, he was married to Miss Jane Crawford. To this union seven children were born five of whom—James W., Mrs. Laura Tinder, Mrs. Emily Sears, Mrs. Marcella Branson and Mrs. Charity Campbell—survive. Mrs. Hamrick died Sept. 7, 1851, and Nov. 18, 1852, the deceased was married to Miss Dicy Blackburn, who died in December, 1899. To this union ten children were born, four of whom—Jesse, of Anderson, Cary, Lyman and Mrs. Nettie Downard—survive.

William F. Hamrick in his prime was one of the most successful farmers in this section of the state. He was a breeder of fine horses and cattle with which he won many prizes. He was a large land owner and before dividing the bulk of his property among his children owned nearly 2,000 acres. He was a chairman of the Republican county committee in the infancy of the party. His eyesight failed him late in life and for the past ten years he has been totally blind. He lived on his farm west of town until about a month ago, when, owing to his condition, he was brought to the home of his daughter where he could be better cared for.

The deceased was long a member of the Friends church. Services were held at the home Monday morning at 11 o'clock and were conducted by Rev. Zeno H. Doan. The interment was in the South cemetery.
