Obituary for George W. Hardwick

from The Republican (Danville, Indiana)--issue of Thursday, January 28, 1904—page 1, column 6:

George W. Hardwick, son of Wesley and Susan Ann Hardwick, was born in Hendricks county, January 9, 1843, and died at St. Vincent's hospital in Indianapolis, January 23, 1904, aged 61 years and 14 days. In 1872 he was married to Miss Dillie Hutchens, of Illinois. To this union were born two sons and a daughter, the daughter, Miss Leonore, surviving, the mother and sons having passed to the great beyond. While he had never united with any church, yet the sisters of St. Vincent's say that he said he was prepared and ready to die. Mr. Hardwick was taken sick November 14 with typhoid fever. Thus he lay sick ten weeks, seven of which were spent in the hospital. The immediate cause of death was blood poisoning suerinduced by an injury received while railroading in his younger days. He was the third of a family of eleven children all of whom except four are dead, William, of Saybrook, Ills., John W., of Terre Haute, Margaret J. Strange, of Frankfort and Jesse L., of Hadley.
