Obituary for Franklin Haynes

from The Republican (Danville, Hendricks County, Indiana)--issue of Thursday, June 10, 1901--page 1, column 5:

FRANKLIN HAYNES
Death of a Well Known Citizen of the County

Franklin Haynes, better known as “Uncle Frank” died at his home in the western part of the county, Thursday. The burial was at Danville, Saturday, the services being conducted by Rev. Martin of the Christian church.

Thus another of the well known citizens of Hendricks county has gone. He was born in New York, April 7th, 1823, and was the first son born in a family of thirteen children. He was married to Lydia Nedry at Wilmington, Ohio, September 12, 1846, and they came to Indiana in 1854. To this union there were born eleven children—eight sons and three daughters all of whom survive their father. Nineteen grandchildren have come into the family, thirteen of whom are living.

Uncle Frank was ever an industrious, hard-working man. As a stock buyer, he formed a wide acquaintance over this and surrounding counties and he held the respect and confidence of those with whom he had dealings. He was always an affectionate father and husband. Since 1864 he was a member of the Christian church at Danville. During his last illness he manifested great patience, even in the midst of the most severe suffering and no complaints escaped his lips. At his funeral all his children were present except Eliza and Eva, who live in Kansas and on account of illness and long distance could not come.

Uncle Frank will long be kindly remembered in this community and the family have the sympathy of a wide circle of friends.
