Obituary for Sarah (Gregg) Henton

from The Republican (Danville, Indiana)--issue of Thursday, March 5, 1903—page 1, column 5:

“Aunt” Sarah Henton, one of Hendricks county's pioneers and one of Danville's good women, died at her home Thursday afternoon at four o'clock of senile debility, aged 87 years, 10 months and 12 days. Her last illness was of eight weeks' duration but she had been in poor health for several years. She was born in Surry county, North Carolina, April 14, 1815. Her maiden name was Gregg. At an early age she moved with her parents to Centerville, Ind. Here she was a schoolmate of Indiana's war governor, Oliver P. Morton. While living at Centerville, she visited in Danville and became acquainted with Milton Henton. The acquaintence [sic] ripened into love and November 20, 1844, they were married at Centerville. They drove to Danville, the trip occupying two days. They went to housekeeping in the house where they both died, which was always their home. No children were born to them but they raised two, the late Carrie Morris, who became the wife of C.F. Hall, and Richard Hathaway. Mrs. Henton united with the M.E. church in early life and for fifty years she and her husband furnished the sacramental bread and wine. Services were held at the home Sunday afternoon and were conducted by Rev. Smith. Interment was in the south cemetery.
