Obituary for Frank Holey

from The Republican (Danville, Indiana)--issue of Thursday, April 9, 1903—page 1, column 5:

INSTANTLY KILLED
Frank Holey's Life Crushed Out By A Train

Frank Holey was instantly killed by the midnight train Monday. He fell under the rear wheels of the last car about fifteen feet from the east end of the station platform. His clothing caught in the wheels and his body was dragged to the end of the baggage room where the train stopped. The wheels had passed across the chest nearly severing the body. A man giving his name as Don Teatz, of Indianapolis, was on the train and saw the accident. He notified the train crew and passengers. The body was carried to the baggage room.

When the train whistled for Danville, Holey arose from his seat in the smoker and walked to the platform. The man who saw the accident says that Holey stepped on the second step and reached for the railing but missed it and fell from the train. He struck on his side and rolled toward the car. The train was moving at a fair speed and Holey went under the car just in front of the rear wheels. A delay of ten seconds in the rolling of his body would have probably saved his life. The remains were placed in a wagan and removed to McClelland's undertaking rooms and then to his late home.

The death of Frank Holey was a profound shock to this community. He was for thirteen years connected with Keeney's barn and during the illness of John I. Keeney had virtually been in control. His occupation threw him in contact with many people who knew him only to admire him. He will be greatly missed and the business men are indebted to him for a thousand little kindnesses. In his home life, Mr. Holey was at his best. His little ones were justly his pride and joy and he was often seen on the streets with them. A generous purse has been raised by popular subscription for his family.

He was the son of Luther Holey and was born July 11, 1866. He and Miss Lena Padgett were married May 10, 1899. Three sons and three daughters were born to them. The funeral is from his late home this morning with interment in the East cemetery.
