Obituary for Frank Miles

from The Republican (Danville, Indiana)--issue of Thursday, June 12, 1902—page 1, column 6:

KILLED BY LIGHTLING [sic]
Frank Miles Receives Fatal Stroke Saturday Afternoon

Frank Miles, son of George Miles, who formerly lived on West Main street, was struck by lightning Saturday afternoon and instantly killed on the farm 1 ˝ miles southeast of Pittsboro, where he lived with his parents. He had been plowing and the storm drove him to the barn. He put his team in the barn and went to the house for a pair of rubber boots, returning to the barn. Mr. and Mrs. Miles were at home but thought of no trouble when Frank did not return after an hour or so. Late in the evening Mrs. Miles went to the barn and found Frank's lifeless body just outside the door. Help was called and the body removed to the house. The deadly current passed down Miles's head, down the right side of the face, across to the left side of the body, thence to the ground. Frank was about thirty years old, an excellent young man. The funeral Monday from Mount Pleasant church was attended by many friends.
